Welcome to our online evening service!

We begin our time with the Lord’s prayer:

Our Father in Heaven
Hallowed be your name;
Your kingdom come, your will be done
On earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread;
And forgive us our sins
As we forgive those who sin against us.
Lead us not into temptation,
And deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the glory and the power are yours,
Now and forever, Amen.

1. Praise

We come together in the words of Colossians 3:16:

Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom, and as you sing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs with gratitude in your hearts to God.

2. Confession

Earlier in Colossians 3, Paul reminds us that since we have been raised with Christ, we are to set our hearts and our minds on things above, rather than on earthly things. Then he says:

Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry. Because of these, the wrath of God is coming.

Colossians 3:5-8

Paul goes on to list a number of ways in which we sin, including “anger, rage, malice, slander and filthy language”. And then in v.12 we are told:

As God’s chosen people holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humilty, gentleness and patience.

colossians 3:12

Let us spend some time in prayer, confessing our sins and asking God to enable us to put our sins to death and put on his nature instead. If you are unsure of what to pray, here is a prayer that may help you:

Heavenly Father, we come to you this evening recognising that we have not perfectly lived according to your ways:

We pretend to be in charge when only you can be; we become envious of others and the gifts you have given them; and we are quick to respond with anger and malice in our thoughts, words and deeds.

Through our Lord Jesus Christ, who forgave us all our sins, please help us to put to death whatever belongs to our earthly nature, and to set our hearts and minds on you. Please help us to bear with one another and forgive the grievances we have with each other. Give us a love that will bind our hearts together in perfect unity. For your glory’s sake we pray, Amen.

As a word of encouragement, Paul goes on to say:

Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful.

colossians 3:15

3. Renewal

Let’s join together as we sing with gratitude in our hearts to God who has freed us from condemnation:

As we go out into this week seeking to glorify God in all things, let’s close with these words:

Whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.
